New here? Good. So is half the mat.

The hardest part of Jiu-Jitsu is walking through the door the first time. Every person training here did exactly that. Before they started, most of them were thinking the same things you are:

  • Will I look stupid?
  • Will I get smashed on day one?
  • Am I too old or out of shape for this?
  • Will I slow everyone down?

No. You'll be shown what to do, partnered with people who want you to improve, and coached at your level. You leave your first class knowing more than you walked in with. That's the whole job.

Adults training no-gi Jiu-Jitsu, controlling position on the ground

What you actually learn

Not a random sweat session. A structured martial art you'll keep getting better at for years.

  • Control a bigger, stronger opponent using leverage instead of muscle.
  • Escape bad positions without panicking.
  • Stay calm and breathe when someone's putting pressure on you.
  • Defend yourself standing up and on the ground, gi and no-gi.
  • Build real conditioning without forcing yourself through another boring gym routine.
The adult class together on the mats after training

The room is full of people who started right where you are.

On any given night, a big chunk of the mat is in their first year. You won't be the odd one out. You'll be one of them.

"I've been here a little over a year now and made some good friends. The instructors are great — I absolutely love their attention to detail. I think I'm the oldest person who trains consistently, but I still put up a decent fight with the young bucks half my age."
Brian LongMember · training 1+ year
"I'm in my 40s and started almost a year ago, and the improvement in my cardio and strength has been amazing. Jiu-Jitsu is one of the hardest, most rewarding things I have done."
Steven ChandlerStarted in his 40s
"We love this gym — our whole family trains and we're here almost every day of the week. I'm coming from a wrestling background and have enjoyed the transition to Jiu-Jitsu, especially because of the welcoming environment. Tahir and the instructors are awesome and very encouraging."
Tanner LemonTrains with his family
"I've been training for about two months — it's very welcoming, and the coaches are kind and helpful. Everyone here is supportive, from white belts to black belts. Since I joined I've become a lot healthier and seen significant improvements in my technique."

What a few months on the mat does

Nobody changes overnight. But show up consistently and the difference is hard to miss.

  • Your conditioning catches up. Stairs, sparring, a stressful day: all of it gets easier.
  • You stop panicking in bad positions and start working out the answer.
  • Confidence stops being a word on a poster and becomes something you've earned.
  • You find a crew that notices when you miss a week and is glad when you're back.

Common questions

Do I need any experience?
None. Beginners are expected here, not tolerated. You won't be treated like you should already know what to do.
Am I too old or out of shape to start?
No. You don't get in shape and then start Jiu-Jitsu. Training is how you build the conditioning and mobility. You start where you are and improve from there.
Is it safe for beginners?
Any contact sport carries some risk, but controlled partner work and good coaching make a big difference. You'll learn how to move, when to tap, and how to train responsibly.
What should I wear to my first class?
Comfortable athletic clothes and a water bottle. No gi or gear needed to start. We'll point you in the right direction when you're ready for one.
Will I have to compete?
Only if you want to. Plenty of people here train purely for fitness, stress relief, and self-defense. Competition is an option, never a requirement.
How do I get started?
